I’m looking forward to an apple juice on the rocks tonight at Sesame’s launch party in Cambridge. But first, I must do some sensible things. (sensible, doesn’t come by default unfortunately- have to work hard at it)
Have a happy day, and congrats to all those published today! Seems to be a big day for lots of people.
It’s Day 3!
‘The Sock Hijacker’
aka Sesame’s obnoxious cat Peter Mortimer, aka ‘Fluffy’.
£90 (+p&p £5 by special delivery)
9 x 20 cm
Pen and ink with wash
If you’d like to get your hands on this original art- drop me a quick email on sarah.horne9@btinternet.com or trot over to twitter and send me a tweet @sarahhorne9
If you haven’t already, do check out Clementine Beauvais’ website and the Sesame Seade website, both a good read!
Sesame publishes tomorrow!
Enjoy the rest of Wednesday and see you again tomorrow for DAY 4!
- ‘Ducks Doing Silly Things.’ 72 x 64 cm
- Duck on a Skateboard
- Duck in a Flounce
- Duck on Skates
- Duck Riverdance
- Juggling duck
- Sherlock Duck
- Duck in a Skate
- Duck with a squirrel on his head
SO it’s DAY 2, and this is one of my favorites!
‘Ducks Doing Silly Things’
These ducks are from the endpapers of Sesame Seade: Sleuth On Skates. All ducks sit on one sheet , as in the first image above.
In the book, Sesame makes lots of reference to a pregnant duck that Peter Mortimer ( aka ‘Chubby’, the cat) is constantly hunting. Pretty funny stuff.
I encourage you to take a look at this book. You won’t be disappointed!

It was exciting to be asked to illustrate Michaela Strachan’s Really Wild Adventures last year… and funny animal poetry is always a big tick for me!
The book published last year in hardback and earlier this year in paperback. This week I’m off to Tunbridge Wells to see Michaela’s new show based on the book! It’ll be interesting to see how it all looks on stage…
Michaela’s tour dates are here and you can buy a copy of the book here.
Here’s a snapshot of some of the work that has been on my drawing board the last few months.

The Sesame Seade Mysteries by Clementine Beauvais. Published by Hodder Childrens’ (2nd May, 2013)
Very exciting to be asked to illustrate this wonderfully witty series about a Super Sleuth. The first book in the series publishes on May 2nd, 2013. We will celebrating with a launch at Heffers in Cambridge. You can Pre-order a Sesame here or purchase from your finest indie bookshop on the day, should the mood take you!
Two Bad Grans By Geraldine Durrant Published by Piccadilly Press. (Oct 2013)
It was my pleasure to work on this picture book earlier this year. As the title states it’s about some very badly behaved old ladies, who have to buck up their ideas once they suddenly become Grannies!
Two Bad Grans publishes in October this year.
Lettering for covers: Dead Or Alive and My Best Friend and Other Enemies (Egmont/Nosy Crow)
I am asked more and more these days, to supply hand drawn/ illustrated type for cover work, to which my answer is always a massive, big fat “Yes”.
Vulgar The Viking series by Odin Redbeard. Published by Nosy Crow
This has been a real joy to work on. The gags are excellent and five books down, Vulgar text is still wonderfully fresh. We are all rather bereft at the moment, as Vulgar’s adventures come to a halt after book 6. What a fantastic project.
